M.Nii was founded in Mākaha, Hawaii, in the 1950s, where local surfers would bring their shorts to for repairing. Seeing a gap in the market for robust swimming trunks, the brand started selling twill styles that could stand wear and tear. The Mākaha Short has been worn by legends ranging from John Wayne to John F. Kennedy. Relaunched by John Moore in 2012, the designs are popular with both sportsman and holiday makers alike.
